The wealth and beauty of this collection of silverware earned it the right to be presented the same year at the Paris Exposition des Produits de l’Industrie. The preparatory drawings for the tableware are identified here amongst those formerly in the archives of Odiot’s famous Parisian maison, subsequently scattered and lost. These have thrown light on the technical and stylistic evolution of French goldsmiths during the Restoration. This was a period of uncertainty between the very captivating neo-Baroque taste coming out of England at the time and echoes of the great neoclassical goldsmiths. The numerous pieces that go to make up the silver service used by the Savoy royal family are now housed in the Quirinal Palace in Rome. Charles Albert commissioned them to satisfy the royal family’s new needs for silverware, going to supplement the tableware that had been at its peak during the Ancien Regime. At that time, imposing centre pieces were to be found on royal dining tables, with elaborate plateaus and terrines, artistically laden with victuals. This was why, during the 1800s, the House of Savoy added more pieces to their service, commissioned from the same goldsmiths and other master craftsmen from Piedmont. As a result, this collection of silverware stands as one of the most imposing table services of the 1800s, which has remained intact up to the present day.

["post-10173","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
