Con serrate argomentazioni si analizzano i motivi per cui \u00e8 stato modificato il soggetto richiesto e le ragioni dell\u2019impianto iconografico, indagando sui santi illustrati e la diffusione del loro culto. I personaggi coinvolti nel contratto sono contestualizzati nella realt\u00e0 storica di Leonessa, all\u2019epoca importante nodo commerciale. L\u2019analisi stilistica chiarisce i rapporti con le opere coeve, l\u2019incidenza del correggismo rivisitato sui Carracci e l\u2019influenza di Carlo Saraceni. Infine si accenna alla ripresa del modello da parte di alcuni artisti, tra cui Francesco Cozza, al quale \u00e8 restituita un\u2019opera proveniente da Goriano Valli (L\u2019Aquila), gi\u00e0 attribuita a Lanfranco.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Giovanni Lanfranco\u2019s 1615 contract for the Leonessa altarpiece and details of a painting to attribute to Francesco Cozza<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The contract for the creation of Lanfranco\u2019s splendid Leonessa altarpiece has only recently been uncovered by the writer. It sheds light on the chronology of the painting in 1615, the cultural context in which it was created and any possible intermediaries. With concise reasoning the paper looks into why the original requested subject of the painting was modified, and the thinking behind the iconographic layout. This focus\u00ades on the Saints represented and their cult. The persons involved with the contract have been placed in their historical context, within the town of Leonessa, at the time an important commercial hub. Stylistic analysis sheds light on any comparisons with other, contemporary works, hints of Correggio filtered through the works of the Carracci, and the influence of Carlo Saraceni.
