I Giornali<\/em> di Vincenzo Pacetti, fonte inesauribile di notizie sulla Roma del tempo, rivelano che i rapporti fra lo scultore papalino Pacetti e il pittore ex giacobino Wicar non furono mai di vera amicizia, ma piuttosto di reciproco tornaconto. I due risultano in contatto negli anni della Repubblica Romana, quando lo scultore spera (invano) di trarre vantaggio dalla posizione del francese, commissario aggiunto per le requisizioni.
\nAncora i Giornali<\/em> rivelano l’inedita notizia che tra il 1802 e il 1808 Wicar \u00e8 affittuario di Pacetti al primo piano di via Gregoriana 34. I due si frequenteranno all’Accademia di San Luca, di cui dal 1805 saranno entrambi membri molto attivi, ma l’elezione di Wicar in quell’anno non \u00e8, come altre, patrocinata dall’influente Pacetti, che ne registra l’elezione in modo distaccato. Peraltro Wicar in una lettera all’allievo Francesco Giangiacomo mostra di nutrire per lo scultore una stima moderata e anni dopo sembra scoraggiare il famoso collezionista franco-svizzero J-Alexandre de Pourtal\u00e8s ad acquistare dal Pacetti dipinti che egli vuol spacciare come opere di Leonardo.
\nSempre i Giornali<\/em> ci rivelano che la casa occupata da Wicar in via Gregoriana 34 sar\u00e0 abitata da Ingres tra il 1815 e il 1818, anch’egli quindi sar\u00e0 affittuario di Pacetti. \u00e8 forse l’interno di questa casa ad essere riprodotto nel quadro di Jean Alaux del 1818, assieme ai suoi due occupanti, Ingres e sua moglie Madelaine, in una composizione pervasa di atmosfera amorosa, che sembra rimandare a un’allegoria dell’amore coniugale, delicatamente suggellato dal vaso di vetro con rose rosa, posto al centro prospettico della scena.<\/p>\n

Pacetti, Wicar and a note on Ingres<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Giornali<\/em> of Vincenzo Pacetti, an inexhaustible source of information on the Rome of Pacetti\u2019s day, reveal that the interactions between the papal sculptor Pacetti and the ex\u2013Jacobean painter Wicar never amounted to a real friendship, but were rather useful towards mutual profit. The two were in contact during the years of the Roman Republic when the sculptor hoped (in vain) to gain some advantage from the position of the French painter, who had been named deputy commissioner for requisitions.
\nThe Giornali<\/em> also reveal the previously unknown fact that between 1802 and 1808 Wicar was Pacetti\u2019s tenant, on the first floor of Via Gregoriana 34. The two also saw each other at the Accademia of San Luca, where from 1805 on both were quite active members. But Wicar\u2019s election that year as academician was not, like other elections, sponsored by the influential Pacetti, who makes note of it with detachment. Moreover Wicar in a letter to the student Francesco Giangiacomo reveals only a moderate esteem for the sculptor, and years later seems to have discouraged the famous Franco-Swiss collector J.\u2013Alexandre de Pourtal\u00e8s from purchasing paintings from Pacetti, which the latter was attempting to pass off as works by Leonardo.
\nThe Giornali<\/em> also reveal that the flat formerly occupied by Wicar in via Gregoriana 34 would be inhabited by Ingres between 1815 and 1818, who was thus also a tenant of Pacetti. It is perhaps the interior of this flat together with its two occupants, Ingres and his wife Madelaine, that is depicted in the painting by Jean Alaux of 1818, a composition pervaded by a tender and amorous atmosphere that seems to suggest an allegory of conjugal love, delicately sealed by the glass vase with pink roses placed at the perspectival center of the scene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
