L\u2019opera presenta un\u2019integrazione coerente dell\u2019elemento architettonico, decorativo e pittorico e l\u2019uso sapiente della policromia marmorea. A partire dalla ricostruzione della fitta relazione di committenti e figure che si avvicendarono nella storia della cappella, con il supporto di nuova documentazione, \u00e8 stato possibile avanzare una nuova datazione dell\u2019attuale allestimento intorno all\u2019ottavo decennio del secolo. In questa occasione, grazie ad alcuni raffronti stilistici e tipologici, si propone un\u2019ipotesi attributiva per il progetto architettonico, ripercorrendo inoltre la storia dei monumenti funebri. La pala d\u2019altare di Marcello Venusti \u00e8 oggetto di una specifica rilettura in quanto, nella sua fattura a tratti incoerente sul piano stilistico (ma che ben si spiega alla luce dei documenti), sar\u00e0 modello fondativo per la successiva pittura romana, a partire da Scipione Pulzone in poi.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Capodiferro Mignanelli Chapel: the Venusti altarpiece and coloured marbles<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Mignanelli Chapel has remained virtually unchanged over the years, giving us a fundamental key to better understand late 16th\u2013century Rome. The work is a coherent integration of architectural, decorative, and pictorial elements, along with a skilful use of coloured marbles. Working from recently emerged documents, it\u2019s been possible to piece together the close relationship between the string of patrons and artists involved in the chapel\u2019s history. Recent research dates the current disposition to about the 1580s. Some stylistic and typological comparisons encourage a hypothesis as to the chapel\u2019s architectural design, taking into account the history of funerary monuments. Marcello Venusti\u2019s altarpiece has been focused on in particular, and reinterpreted.
