La decorazione pittorica venne portata a termine in due fasi distinte tra la fine del XVI secolo e l\u2019inizio del XVII, com\u2019\u00e8 stato possibile dedurre da evidenze strutturali e stilistiche. Alla prima fase decorativa \u00e8 ascrivibile la <em>Maria Maddalena <\/em>situata a destra dell\u2019altare: grazie a una <em>Cronaca<\/em> dell\u2019inizio del XVII secolo conservata presso l\u2019Archivio Storico di San Pietro in Vincoli, si pu\u00f2 oggi confermare l\u2019attribuzione a Jacopo Zucchi e chiarire l\u2019identit\u00e0 della committente del dipinto, Claudia Delvitis. Gli affreschi e l\u2019altra tela laterale raffigurante <em>Santa Marta<\/em>, completati sotto il giuspatronato di monsignor Guglielmo de Beltrandis, vescovo di Sarno, sembrano invece riconducibili all\u2019inizio degli anni Dieci del XVII secolo, quando la cappella sub\u00ec pesanti rimaneggiamenti per la collocazione dell\u2019altare quattrocentesco, e possono essere attribuiti a Baldassarre Croce.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Remembering the origins: historical\u2013artistic events surrounding the Chapel of the Crucifix,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>from the end of the fifteenth century up to Alexander VII\u2019s works for<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The paper delves deeper into the paintings in the Chapel of the Crucifix, the first chapel to the left of the main chapel. From a structural and stylistic analysis, the works appear to have been completed in two distinct phases between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The canvas of <em>Mary Magdalene<\/em>, to the right of the altar, dates back to the first phase. An early 17th\u2013century chronicle, housed in the San Pietro in Vincoli archives, confirms its attribution to Jacopo Zucchi, executed on commission from Claudia Delvitis. The canvas depicting Saint Martha, opposite, is attributed to Baldassarre Croce, as are the frescoes. These were executed on commission from Monsignor Guglielmo de Beltrandis, Bishop of Sarno.
