Architettura e citt\u00e0 in cento anni di storia<\/em> (2020)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">Il contributo si propone di illustrare i principi teorici e operativi che hanno guidato l\u2019elaborazione del Piano Regolatore di Ostia del 1916.\u00a0Un piano commissionato dal Comune di Roma all\u2019Associazione Artistica fra i Cultori di Architettura a Roma che prevedeva un insediamento edilizio a carattere estensivo, basato sia sul modello della citt\u00e0\u2013giardino inglese che sull\u2019approccio \u201cambientista\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em>teorizzato da Gustavo Giovannoni. Attraverso il confronto con altri interventi romani di decentramento residenziale \u2014 la\u00a0citt\u00e0\u2013giardino Aniene a Montesacro e la borgata\u2013giardino Garbatella \u2014\u00a0\u00e8 possibile rileggere le differenti declinazione dei principi proposti da Giovannoni nell\u2019ambito del dibattito sull\u2019uso e la forma della citt\u00e0. Un dibattito che individua nella pittoresca disposizione della citt\u00e0 stratificata un possibile modello, sia per gli interventi di decentramento residenziale che di diradamento edilizio. \u00c8 evidente in questa tendenza\u00a0ambientista\u00a0anche il riferimento a una serie di influenze culturali europee:\u00a0i principi di estetica urbana di Camillo Sitte, Charles Buls, Joseph St\u00fcbben e\u00a0l\u2019idea di citt\u00e0\u2013giardino di Ebenezer\u00a0Howard e Raymond Unwin. Il tema dell\u2019ambientismo costituisce, cos\u00ec, tra gli anni Dieci e Venti del Novecento, un principio fondante per il progetto urbano e architettonico configurato sia sulle istanze moderne dell\u2019edilizia cittadina che sulla reinterpretazione dei diversi caratteri d\u2019arte e d\u2019ambiente che distinguono paesi, citt\u00e0 e regioni.<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><strong>\u201cNew Ostia\u201d, the general urban development plan of 1916 and Rome\u2019s districts<br \/>\nmodelled on the garden city movement<\/strong><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p>The paper outlines the main guidelines, both theoretical and practical, behind the drawing up of Ostia\u2019s general urban development plan of 1916 (Ostia Nuova). The plan had been commissioned by Rome\u2019s city council, the job falling to the\u00a0<em>Associazione Artistica fra i Cultori di Architettura a Roma.<\/em> The housing project was non intensive, based on the English garden city movement, popular at the time, as well as Gustavo Giovannoni\u2019s theories on living spaces. There are other comparable examples in Rome of this type of decentralised housing: the Aniene garden city complex in Montesacro and the Garbatella district as a whole. They provide an opportunity to take another look at different possible interpretations of Giovannoni\u2019s contributions to the debate over the character and use of urban space. The debate sought to create a possible model for a pleasing arrangement for the various levels within an urban landscape. This was the case both when houses were placed out of the centre of town and when designed with more open spaces between one building and another. This appreciation of the urban environment clearly reflects the influence of a series of European trends, including Camillo Sitte, Charles Buls and Joseph St\u00fcbben\u2019s ideas on urban aesthetics, and the English garden city movement of Ebenezer Howard and Raymond Unwin. In the first twenty or so years of the 1900s the question of creating a pleasing urban environment was fundamental to town planning and architecture. This revolved around modern day thinking about housing and a reinterpretation of various artistic traits and environments that set apart different countries, cities and regions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Estratto dal volume speciale Ostia.
