La finalit\u00e0 del contributo \u00e8 la ricostruzione di un quadro archeologico d\u2019insieme, sia pure ancora in fase preliminare, dell\u2019area attualmente compresa nel Municipio XVII interessata dal tracciato della tratta T2 della Linea C della metropolitana di Roma, nel percorso che attraversa i Rioni Borgo e Prati e il Quartiere Della Vittoria.
\nIn esso si opera un\u2019interpolazione degli elementi emersi dalle indagini archeologiche di I fase avviate sul territorio preliminarmente alla realizzazione della Metro C con i dati noti sulle persistenze archeologiche dell\u2019area.
\nLa documentazione pregressa, dovuta a rinvenimenti per lo pi\u00f9 fortuiti e, nella maggior parte dei casi, legati allo sviluppo edilizio post\u2013unitario e alla realizzazione dei relativi sottoservizi, nonch\u00e9 alla edificazione dei muraglioni di arginatura del Tevere, nonostante l\u2019importanza delle scoperte, risulta, complessivamente lacunosa e i riferimenti altimetrici scarsi e difficilmente riconducibili in termini di quote assolute e raramente consente di evincere l\u2019entit\u00e0 delle demolizioni delle strutture antiche rinvenute.
\nPer questo motivo l\u2019apporto fornito, gi\u00e0 fin da ora, dalle attivit\u00e0 di indagine legate alla realizzazione della Linea C, \u00e8 risultato particolarmente prezioso per la ricostruzione del quadro archeologico nel XVII Municipio, rimasto a lungo frammentario e lacunoso\u00a0e che presenta, invece, un notevole interesse per lo stretto legame tra lo sviluppo degli aspetti insediativi e le caratteristiche orografiche e idrogeologiche del territorio.
\nGli scavi\u00a0sono stati dislocati in corrispondenza delle aree destinate ai corpi Stazione di Risorgimento, Ottaviano e Clodio\u2013Mazzini, mentre sono ancora da avviare in corrispondenza della Stazione San Pietro, fin qui indagata mediante diverse campagne di carotaggi.
\nAltri sondaggi geognostici sono stati effettuati lungo l\u2019intera tratta tra piazza Pia e via Montesanto: complessivamente sono stati effettuati 72 carotaggi: 50 distribuiti lungo l\u2019asse della linea e 22 concentrati nell\u2019area di piazza Pia, largo Giovanni XXIII e Castel Sant\u2019Angelo. Per varie ragioni si \u00e8 finora proceduto con saggi di ridotta estensione, tranne per lo scavo di piazza Risorgimento, che ha messo in luce una fornace ottocentesca, destinata, con ogni probabilit\u00e0, alla produzione di mattoni, che costituisce una significativa testimonianza del passato recente della citt\u00e0, confermando la vocazione produttiva attestata nella la zona fin dall\u2019antichit\u00e0 ed una successione di livelli stradali\u00a0d\u2019et\u00e0 moderna con annesse sistemazioni ortive, che appare pienamente rispondente alle raffigurazioni della zona realizzate tra la met\u00e0 del \u2019700 e il primo ventennio del secolo successivo.
\nElementi di notevole interesse\u00a0hanno prodotto i risultati della vasta campagna di carotaggi. Essi hanno infatti conferito, anche grazie alla mappatura delle strutture e dei depositi stratigrafici\u00a0variamente intaccati dai muraglioni del Tevere e dai grandi Collettori Prati e Basso Farnesina,\u00a0un maggior significato anche ai dati pregressi, contribuendo alla loro sistematizzazione in un quadro archeologico di pi\u00f9 ampio respiro, consentendo la traccia del potenziale archeologico lungo l\u2019asse progettuale del tracciato della Linea C, sulla base della quale programmare le future indagini.
\nCertamente i risultati pi\u00f9 esaustivi per la conoscenza dettagliata della situazione archeologica dell\u2019area sono attesi dalle prossime indagini, che dovranno privilegiare saggi di carattere estensivo.<\/p>\n

Preliminary notes on the archaeological situation of the territory in Municipio XVII. Correlations between the findings of new investigations and previous data<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim of the contribution is to reconstruct an overall picture of the archaeological situation, albeit still in its preliminary phase, of the area currently comprised in Municipio (urban district) XVII directly affected by the route of stretch T2 of Line C of the Rome metro, in other words the part of the route that traverses the Rioni Borgo and Prati and the Della Vittoria quarter.
\nThe author attempts an interpolation of the findings that emerged from the archaeological investigations of Phase I conducted on the territory preliminary to the realization of Metro C with the data already known on archaeological remains in the area.
\nThe previous documentation, due in the main to chance finds, is linked for the most part to post\u2013unification urban development, the realization of related infrastructures, and the construction of the massive stone\u2013built river embankments along the Tiber. Despite the importance of the discoveries, the evidence is on the whole fragmentary. The altimetric data are meagre, difficult to interpret, or to relate to specific levels, and seldom permit the scale of the demolitions of ancient structures found during building work to be gauged.
\nFor these reasons the contribution already made by the investigations linked to the realization of Line C has been particularly valuable for reconstructing the archaeological situation in Municipio XVII, which has long remained fragmentary and which is nonetheless of considerable interest, in terms of the close link between the development of residential structures in the area and the orographical and hydrogeological characteristics of the territory.
\nExploratory excavations were sited in the areas allocated for the metro stations of Risorgimento, Ottaviano and Clodio\u2013Mazzini. Excavations have still to be begun on the site of the Stazione San Pietro, hitherto investigated through several core\u2013sampling campaigns. Other geognostic surveys have been conducted along the entire stretch of the metro line between Piazza Pia and Via Montesanto: altogether 72 core samples have been taken: 50 distributed along the axis of the line and 22 concentrated in the area of Piazza Pia, Largo Giovanni XXIII and Castel Sant\u2019Angelo.
\nFor various reasons the exploratory excavations have hitherto been of limited extension, with the exception of that in Piazza Risorgimento, where a nineteenth\u2013century kiln, probably for the firing of bricks, was uncovered: a significant testimony of the recent past of the city, confirmed by the industrial vocation of the area ever since antiquity. The excavation also revealed a succession of road levels of the modern period with annexed gardens and orchards, entirely corresponding with topographical representations of the area dating between the mid\u201318th and the first two decades of the following century.
\nThe results of the extensive core\u2013sampling campaign produced results of considerable interest. Thanks to the mapping of structures and of the stratigraphic deposits variously disturbed by the building of the Tiber embankments and by the large Prati and Basso Farnesina sewerage systems, they helped to confirm and give major significance to previous data, contributing to their interpretation in a larger archaeological picture. They also permitted the archaeological potential along the planned axis of Line C to be traced, as a basis on which to plan future investigations.
\nYet, undoubtedly more exhaustive results for a detailed knowledge of the archaeological situation of the area are awaited from the next investigations, which should privilege explorations of a more extensive character<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
