Il Tracciato Fondamentale Della Linea C Della Metropolitana Di Roma: Prime Indagini Archeologich<\/em>e (2010)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Di notevole interesse archeologico sono i dati emersi dalle indagini preliminari alla progettazione dell\u2019attraversamento sotterraneo del versante Ovest del Celio e del pozzo di collegamento 3.2.<br \/>\nPer il posizionamento di quest\u2019ultimo \u00e8 stato effettuato un saggio presso l\u2019incrocio via Annia\u2013piazza Celimontana, dal quale sono emerse, a circa m 10 di profondit\u00e0, strutture murarie di et\u00e0 romana e post\u2013classica e opere idrauliche. La profondit\u00e0 della quota archeologica, in questo punto analoga a quella evidenziata dai numerosi sondaggi effettuati in altri punti della piazza, oltre a confermare il potente interro delle strutture antiche in tutta l\u2019area, consentir\u00e0 prevedibilmente di realizzare i vani di servizio al pozzo in progetto, previsti a quota \u20137,5, senza danni alle preesistenze archeologiche, localizzate a quote pi\u00f9 profonde.<br \/>\nLo studio delle caratteristiche idrogeologiche del Celio, necessario alla progettazione dell\u2019opera, ha portato alla ricognizione di cavit\u00e0 sotterranee poco note, quali le cave con i piccoli bacini di acqua sotto il\u00a0<em>Claudium<\/em>\u00a0o la galleria antica, accessibile dalla base del campanile di Santa Maria in Domnica, percorribile per un breve tratto in direzione di Santo Stefano Rotondo e per almeno un centinaio di metri sotto il parco di Villa Celimontana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"justify\"><strong>The Caelian below the Caelian. Ancient quarries and galleries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Of considerable archaeological interest are the data that emerged from the explorations preliminary to the planning of the underground route of the metro along the western slopes of the Caelian hill and the planned metro shaft 3.2.<br \/>\nWith a view to the siting of this latter, a trial excavation was conducted at the intersection between Via Annia and Piazza Celimontana. At a depth of c.10 metres it revealed wall structures of the Roman and post\u2013classical periods and hydraulic works. The depth of the archaeological level, which at this point is similar to that ascertained by several other trial digs conducted at other points of the piazza, confirms the massive infill that obliterated ancient structures throughout this area.
