Estratto dal volume speciale Archeologia E Infrastrutture. Il Tracciato Fondamentale Della Linea C Della Metropolitana Di Roma: Prime Indagini Archeologich<\/em>e (2010)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le indagini preventive, realizzate nel 1999, hanno individuato nelle aree destinate alle infrastrutture della nuova linea C della metropolitana, contesti archeologici che raccontano il paesaggio antico.
\nPertanto il parere favorevole da parte della Soprintendenza \u00e8 stato condizionato alla valorizzazione dei manufatti, attraverso il recupero del dato scientifico attuato dal 2000 e tutt\u2019ora in corso, con lo scavo integrale e la catalogazione e lo studio dei materiali, sino all\u2019edizione scientifica, con previsione di allestimenti museali anche all\u2019interno delle stazioni di progetto.
\nIn un settore fortemente caratterizzato dal tessuto tardo antico, \u00e8 stato possibile documentare archeologicamente le strategie di sfruttamento capillare del suolo gi\u00e0 in atto dall\u2019epoca repubblicana e note fino ad oggi su basi storiche e letterarie.
\nSe da un lato sono stati rimessi in luce i fondi destinati a produzioni agricole su larga scala, con complessi apprestamenti idrici, dall\u2019altra le attestazioni di attivit\u00e0 estrattive per la fornitura di materiale arido da costruzione hanno evidenziato una singolare continuit\u00e0 d\u2019uso con l\u2019epoca moderna. Tale continuit\u00e0 si evidenzia sia nella parziale sovrapposizione nelle varie fasi dell\u2019attivit\u00e0, sia nella riconversione, gi\u00e0 in et\u00e0 antica, con ritombamento delle cave attraverso materiale di risulta dalle aree urbane.
\n\u00c8 da sottolineare come non sarebbe stato possibile effettuare scavi di tali dimensioni in un\u2019area urbanizzata, se non coordinando le indagini con gli apprestamenti di sicurezza e con una quotidiana sinergia tra risorse tecniche e le esigenze scientifiche.<\/p>\n

Line C in Municipio VI. Notes on the suburban landscape
\nand archaeological excavation methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Preventive exploration of the areas earmarked for the infrastructures of the new Metro Line C in 1999 identified archaeological contexts that provide important information about the ancient landscape.
\nThe project\u2019s approval by the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma was therefore conditional on the proper study and conservation of the archaeological finds made during the rescue campaign begun in 2000 and still in progress; this ranged from the complete excavation of the sites, the cataloguing and analysis of the artefacts, their scientific publication, and plans to display some of the finds in the subway stations.
\nIn an area so strongly characterized by late antiquity, it was possible to document in archaeological terms the strategies for intensive land use already in the Roman republican period and hitherto known only on the basis of the historical and literary sources.
\nThe excavations revealed traces not only of Roman estates for large-scale agricultural production, with complex irrigation systems, but also evidence of quarrying activity for the supply of building materials, with a striking continuity of use with the modern period. This continuity is shown both by a partial overlap in the various phases of quarrying, and by the reconversion, already in antiquity, of quarries into landfill sites for the dumping of waste materials from urban areas.
\nIt should be stressed that it would not have been possible to conduct excavations on this scale in an urbanized area without their proper coordination with the necessary safety measures and a daily synergy between technical resources and scientific requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
