Il collezionismo numismatico dei Savoia ha radici che affondano nella creazione della nuova capitale del ducato savoiardo (Torino), nella seconda met\u00e0 del XVI secolo. Nel presente articolo vengono ripercorse, sulla base dei dati documentali, le vicende dei medaglieri di corte e dell\u2019ambiente erudito che ne accompagn\u00f2 la formazione, sino alla creazione del Museo dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 (poi di Antichit\u00e0) nella prima met\u00e0 del XIX secolo. Il regno di Carlo Aberto di Savoia-Carignano (1831 \u2013 1849) segn\u00f2 la nascita del Medagliere Reale accanto alle altre collezioni artistiche del sovrano, grazie alla figura determinante di Domenico Casimiro Promis, bibliotecario regio. Le drammatiche vicende storiche che caratterizzarono il periodo incisero anche sul passaggio della collezione allo Stato in occasione dell\u2019abdicazione del sovrano, cos\u00ec come avverr\u00e0 un secolo dopo per il \u201cre numismatico\u201d, Vittorio Emanuele III, al termine della seconda guerra mondiale.<\/div>\n

The Numismatic Collection of Carlo Alberto and the Savoy Selection<\/strong><\/div>\n

The numismatic collection of the Savoy family goes back to the creation of the new capital for the Savoy Duchy (Turin) during the second half of the sixteenth century. In this article, the history of the court\u2019s medal collection (medaglieri) and the scholarly circle that was responsible for its establishment are examined with the help of the existing documentation, up to the creation of the University Museum (later the Museum of Antiquities) in the first half of the nineteenth century. The reign of Carlo Alberto of Savoy\u2013Carignano (1831\u20131849) marked the beginning of the Medagliere Reale, together with the sovereign\u2019s other artistic collections, thanks to the crucial presence of Domenico Casimiro Promis, the royal librarian. The dramatic historic events that characterised the period had an effect on the handing over of the collection to the State on the occasion of the king\u2019s abdication, much in the same way as happened a century later in the case of the so\u2013called \u2018Numismatic King\u2019, Victor Emmanuel III, at the end of World War II.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
