Nuove testimonianze documentarie"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"justify\"><strong>Estratto dal fascicolo 1 (gennaio-marzo 2009)<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">Vengono presi in esame i diversi aspetti legati al reimpiego di opere provenienti dall\u2019antica Basilica Vaticana. Come \u00e8 noto, la decisione di Paolo V di completare il rinnovamento di San Pietro che prevedeva la distruzione della navata longitudinale della basilica costantiniana comport\u00f2 la rimozione delle opere che durante i secoli vi si erano accumulate. Lo smantellamento degli apparati decorativi ebbe luogo entro la fine del primo decennio del XVII secolo. Se alcune opere riuscirono ad essere conservate in modo pressoch\u00e9 integrale, la maggior parte sopravvisse in uno stato frammentario. Scampati alla ruina, molti reperti trovarono una nuova sistemazione in apparati decorativi moderni. Il fenomeno del reimpiego assunse un ruolo rilevante per quantit\u00e0 e qualit\u00e0 dei materiali. Lo studio si occupa dei manufatti lapidei di epoca medievale e rinascimentale, focalizzando l\u2019attenzione sull\u2019esito formale dell\u2019operazione di riuso. Che non si tratti di un aspetto marginale della produzione artistica \u00e8 dimostrato dagli artisti e dai committenti coinvolti, spesso personaggi di primissimo piano dell\u2019ambiente romano. Attraverso la documentazione d\u2019archivio edita ed inedita \u00e8 possibile ricostruire la rete dei rapporti ed anche le diverse modalit\u00e0 di accesso ai materiali. Emerge un interesse diffuso per le \u201cmemoriae\u201d dell\u2019antica Basilica Vaticana che implica una rilettura dell\u2019arte del passato.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"justify\">\n<p><strong>The reuse of some \u201cmemoriae\u201d of the old Vatican Basilica during the pontificate<br \/>\nof Paul V Borghese (1605-1621). New documentary evidence<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">The author examines the various aspects linked to the reuse of materials recovered from the old Vatican Basilica. As is well known, Paul V\u2019s decision to complete the new St. Peter\u2019s would entail the destruction of the whole of the nave of the Constantinian basilica. This involved the removal of works of art and ornaments that had accumulated in the basilica over the centuries. The stripping of the decorative elements that had adorned the old St. Peter\u2019s took place by 1610. If some of these works were preserved virtually intact, most have survived in a fragmentary state. Thus saved from demolition, many architectural and sculptural fragments from the old basilica were reused in modern decorative ensembles. The phenomenon of reuse assumed a significant role in terms of the quantity and quality of the materials reused. The present study is devoted to stone artefacts of the medieval and Renaissance periods, focusing particular attention on the formal results of reuse. That this was not a marginal aspect of artistic creation during the pontificate of Paul V is demonstrated by the artists and patrons involved, often leading personalities in Rome at the time. Published and unpublished archival documentation is used to reconstruct the network of relations and also the various modes of access to the salvaged materials.
