Nonostante le sue condizioni attuali estremamente\u00a0lacunose, si tratta certamente della versione originale di una composizione dipinta da Pietro da Cortona verso il 1624-1625, di cui l\u2019esemplare esistente nella Pinacoteca Capitolina sarebbe soltanto una copia. Quanto al \u2018Passaggio del Mar Rosso\u2019 di Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (1610-1662), si tratta di uno degli otto dipinti eseguiti\u00a0dall\u2019 artista a partire dal 1655 per la decorazione del\u00a0Cabinet sur l\u2019eau\u00a0nell\u2019 appartamento d\u2019estate della regina madre Anna d\u2019Austria\u00a0nel palazzo del Louvre. Tolto da quell\u2019ambiente alla fine del secolo XVIII, all\u2019epoca delle trasformazioni dell\u2019appartamento, dovette dopo il suo smontaggio cadere rapidamente nell\u2019anonimato e fu a lungo considerato disperso. A questo punto manca solo uno dei dipinti di Romanelli\u00a0facenti originariamente parte della decorazione del\u00a0Cabinet sur l\u2019eau, e il ritrovamento di questo permette di formulare nuove ipotesi sulla sua creazione e sul suo significato.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Two panel paintings rediscovered in the Louvre: The \u2018Triumph of Bacchus\u2019 by Pietro da Cortona and the \u2018Crossing of the Red Sea\u2019 by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The preparation of the second volume of the Catalogue Raisonn\u00e9 of 17th century Italian paintings in the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre, published in 2006, permitted the identification of two important paintings that had both lost their identity already by the end of the 18th century. The provenance of the \u2018Triumph of Bacchus\u2019 by Pietro da Cortona (1597\u20131669) can be established continuously since 1644, when it was offered by the principe Matteo Sacchetti to Cardinal Giulio Mazarino; having passed into the hands of Louis XIV, King of France, in 1665, it subsequently flowed from the royal collections of the Louvre into the newly created Museum. In spite of its existing much damaged condition, it is undoubtedly the original version of a composition painted by Pietro da Cortona in 1624\u20131625; the other version now in the Pinacoteca Capitolina in Rome is only a copy. As for the \u2018Crossing of the Red Sea\u2019 by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (1610\u20131662), this is one of the eight paintings executed by Romanelli after 1655 for the decoration of the Cabinet sur l\u2019eau in the summer apartment of the Queen Mother Anne of Austria in the Palais du Louvre. Removed from this room at the end of the 18th century, at the time of the apartment\u2019s remodelling, it seems to have rapidly fallen into anonymity and was long thought lost. At this point only one of Romanelli\u2019s paintings forming part of the original decoration of the Cabinet sur l\u2019eau is still missing.
