Di fatto essa realizza \u00abl\u2019intervento minimo \u2026 e l\u2019osservazione continua dei risultati\u00bb (Giorgio Torraca).<br \/>\nIl punto di partenza \u00e8 la \u201cmappatura\u201d come nel \u201cgrande restauro\u201d: ma nella manutenzione programmata l\u2019osservazione e il piccolo intervento sono contestuali. Le attivit\u00e0 puntuali costituiscono \u201cinterventi pilota\u201d sotto il profilo tecnico, estetico, economico. La programmazione consiste nell\u2019individuare cicli di operazioni ripetitive ed estensibili ad altre aree del complesso, gi\u00e0 compiute dapprima \u201ca regia e in economia\u201d; nel ridurre le aree pericolanti e chiuse al pubblico; nel fare interventi e osservazioni misurabili e finalizzate al \u201cgrande restauro\u201d.<br \/>\nLa manutenzione programmata rallenta l\u2019entropia del monumento con piccoli passi di lavoro continuo. Cos\u00ec i percorsi restano sicuri, garantendo al pubblico la visibilit\u00e0 del e dal monumento. Il personale di accoglienza e vigilanza \u00e8 coprotagonista nel registrare le difficolt\u00e0 segnalate dal pubblico.<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Maintenance as planned intervention: the Flavian Amphitheatre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The policy of \u2018planned maintenance\u2019 (manutenzione programmata) is aimed at the decorum and sustainable use of the monument. Its objective is conservation. It consists of \u201cthe minimum intervention \u2026 and the continuous observation of the results\u201d (Giorgio Torraca).<br \/>\nThe point of departure is the \u2018mapping\u2019 of the monument as in large\u2013scale restoration projects (grande restauro): but in planned maintenance, observation and small\u2013scale intervention are contextual. The targeted activities constitute \u2018pilot interventions\u2019 from a technical, aesthetic and financial point of view. Planning consists in identifying cycles of repetitive operations that have already been tested and costed and can be extended to other areas of the monument; in reducing dangerous areas closed to the public; in conducting maintenance interventions and making observations that are measurable and applicable to large\u2013scale restoration projects.<br \/>\nPlanned maintenance slows down the entropy of the monument with a programme of small steps of continuous work. In this way the itineraries taken by visitors remain safe, and the public is guaranteed visibility both of the monument and from the monument.
