Esse sono tra le poche pitture dell\u2019artista che utilizzano questo genere di supporto in pietra e sembrerebbero appartenere al suo primo periodo romano, quando si stabilisce in questa citt\u00e0 dopo la formazione napoletana. Vi si riscontrano suggestioni di un certo tipo di cavaraggismo, specie per l\u2019attenzione, in questo primo momento, per le piccole scene di genere o di storia, come gi\u00e0 rilevato dal Mancini, suo primo biografo,\u00a0e alcune affinit\u00e0 con le opere del pittore olandese Leonaert Bramer, che fu attivo a Roma intorno al 1615.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Addenda to Filippo Napoletano (two): between Naples and Rome<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The author has recognised the hand and style of Filippo Napoletano (1589\u20131629) in two paintings on slate, belonging to a private collection, representing the \u2018Martyrdom of St. Catherine of Alexandria\u2019 and the \u2018Massacre of the Innocents\u2019. They are among the few paintings by the artist on this kind of stone and would appear to date from his early period when he settled in Rome after his apprenticeship in Naples.
