I disegni preparatori costituiscono un punto di vista privilegiato per lo studio della decorazione pittorica dei palazzi romani cinquecenteschi. Grazie ad alcuni disegni, raggruppati per tipologia, nell\u2019articolo si vuole evidenziare l\u2019evoluzione stilistica di alcuni temi decorativi, il passaggio di modelli tra le botteghe, il ruolo del committente nella definizione del progetto. Il primo gruppo di disegni \u00e8 basato sulla tipologia decorativa del fregio con elementi vegetali, animali, putti e elementi fantastici, largamente usato per buona parte del secolo, da Peruzzi fino agli Zuccari, passando per Perino del Vaga. Il secondo gruppo\u00a0\u00a0mostra l\u2019espandersi della decorazione all\u2019intera parete, secondo modelli sempre pi\u00f9 complessi che tendono ad allestire in modo illusorio la decorazione, cos\u00ec come appare in un progetto di mano di Vasari e in un modello conservato al Courtauld di Londra, ritenuto della fine del Cinquecento. L\u2019ultima serie di disegni riguarda la decorazione di logge e gallerie. I progetti di Zucchi per Ferdinando de\u2019 Medici e di Cherubino Alberti per i Farnese testimoniano l\u2019imporsi della galleria sullo scorcio del secolo quale luogo deputato ad accogliere le prestigiose raccolte antiquarie dei nobili romani.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Designing a wall: drawings for the mural decorations of palaces in Rome<\/strong><\/p>\n

Preparatory drawings constitute a privileged vantage point for the study of mural decoration in sixteenth\u2013century palaces in Rome. Thanks to a number of such drawings grouped according to type, the author discusses the stylistic evolution of a few decorative motifs, the sharing of models between workshops, and the role of patrons in defining the projects.
\nThe first group of drawings examined display friezes with vegetal motifs, animals, putti, and fantastic elements, a decorative typology widely used for much of the century, from Peruzzi to Perino del Vaga up to the Zuccari. The second group shows the expansion of the decoration to the entire wall, following increasingly complex models that generally use forms of illusionism to organize the decoration, as may be seen in a project drawn by Vasari, and a modello in the London Courtauld Institute of Art dated to the late sixteenth century. The final series of drawings considered in the article is related to the decoration of loggias and galleries. Zucchi\u2019s projects for Ferdinando de\u2019 Medici and those of Cherubino Alberti for the Farnese testify to the rise of the gallery at the turn of the century as the appointed site for the display of the prestigious collections of art and antiquities of Rome\u2019s nobility.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
