Queste brevi citazioni, spesso ripetitive, offrono indicazioni su diversi fenomeni legati all\u2019abitare a Roma (fitto, coabitazione, ecc.) e paiono svolgere una duplice funzione: attestare la continuit\u00e0 tra la citt\u00e0 Antica e quella Moderna e, contestualmente, celebrare l\u2019attivit\u00e0 edilizia e le trasformazioni della citt\u00e0 promosse dai pontefici. Non pare difatti casuale che le guide pi\u00f9 ricche di dati sulle abitazioni dell\u2019Urbe vengano stampate nel corso, o poco dopo, i pontificati di Giulio II, Paolo III e Sisto V.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Palaces Described and Illustrated in Sixteenth\u2013Century Guides to Rome<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p>The article presents and discusses data on domestic architecture in the city of Rome that has emerged from the systematic spoliation of forty historic guidebooks. From Francesco Albertini\u2019s\u00a0Opusculum\u00a0(1510) through the collection of woodcuts by Gerolamo Franzini (Palatia Procerum Urbis, 1589) illustrating the fa\u00e7ades of palaces and urban villas, these descriptions of Rome make limited reference to private residences. The brief and often repetitive citations furnish information on various phenomena related to living in Rome (rent, cohabitation, etc.) and seem to have a dual function: to attest to the continuity between the ancient and the modern city and at the same time, to celebrate the construction activity and urban renovations promoted by the popes.
