Due opere miniate nella bottega del fiorentino Attavante tra il 1494 e il 1497 per il re di Portogallo, Emanuele I, oggi conservate a Lisbona – la Biblia<\/em>\u00a0dos Jeronimos<\/em>\u00a0con il commento di Niccol\u00f2 di\u00a0Lira in sette volumi (Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, mss. CF 161\/1-7) e il\u00a0Livro das Senten\u00e7as<\/em> di Pietro Lombardo (ms. CF 145) \u2013 consentono di fare nuova luce sul costo della loro decorazione. Il presente studio, partendo dal noto contratto stipulato tra il miniatore e il mercante fiorentino Clemente Sernigi, incaricato dal sovrano di seguire la lavorazione dei codici, esamina le diverse tipologie decorative menzionate nel documento e i relativi costi, mettendoli a confronto con le pagine prodotte da Attavante e dai suoi collaboratori negli otto volumi portoghesi. L\u2019analisi comparativa tra fonte scritta e dato materiale permette di individuare per la prima volta tipologie di miniature poco note, discusse in passato senza giungere ad un chiarimento definitivo (ad esempio, a proposito delle \u00ablettere paliate\u00bb) e di conoscerne il valore, fissando in tal modo una sorta di \u201cprezzario\u201d per la miniatura fiorentina di fine Quattrocento.<\/p>\n

Costs and Different Types of Florentine Miniatures at the End of the Fifteenth Century: A Re\u2013examination of the Attavante Bible for the King of Portugal<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two illuminated manuscripts from the workshop of the Florentine Attavante produced between 1494 and 1497 for Manuel I, King of Portugal, today preserved in the National Archives in Lisbon \u2014 the Jerome Bible<\/em> with Niccol\u00f2 di Lira\u2019s commentary in seven volumes (Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, mss. CF 161\/1\u20137) and the Book of Sentences<\/em> by Pietro Lombardo (ms. CF 145) \u2014 shed new light on the cost of their decoration. The present study, starting from the well\u2013known contract drawn up between the illuminator and the Florentine merchant Clemente Sernigi, charged by the king to follow the work on the codices, examines the various types of decoration mentioned in the document and their relative costs, comparing them with the pages decorated by Attavante and his assistants in the eight Portuguese volumes. A comparative analysis of the written sources with the material evidence makes it possible to identify for the first time little known miniature typologies that have been discussed only inconclusively in the past \u2014 such as for example the illuminated capital letters or lettere paliate \u2014 and to understand their value, establishing in such a way a sort of \u2018price list\u2019 for Florentine miniatures at the end of the fifteenth century.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
