Sebbene le campagne di scavo susseguitesi a pi\u00f9 riprese nel santuario di Ercole Vincitore a Tivoli abbiano restituito un patrimonio scultoreo di notevole pregio, quest\u2019ultimo non era mai stato oggetto di un\u2019analisi complessiva.\u00a0\u00a0La recente apertura dell\u2019Antiquarium<\/em>\u00a0presso il santuario ha offerto l\u2019occasione per eseguire il primo studio sistematico dell\u2019intero materiale scultoreo rinvenuto, permettendo di precisare cronologie, individuare ambiti di produzione ed evidenziare i principi espositivi sottesi all\u2019allestimento.
\nI rinvenimenti scultorei pi\u00f9 consistenti e notevoli si datano in et\u00e0 tardo-repubblicana e sono testimonianza dei fervidi contatti tra Tivoli e il mondo greco, in particolare Delo, in un momento in cui la citt\u00e0 tiburtina assunse un ruolo preminente nei commerci tra l\u2019Italia e l\u2019Oriente. L\u2019analisi stilistica e iconografica delle statue evidenzia come, al tempo della prima imponente fase di monumentalizzazione del complesso nei primi decenni del I sec. a.C., l\u2019arredo scultoreo fu commissionato quasi esclusivamente a botteghe greco\u2013insulari. L\u2019uso ampiamente documentato della tecnica del\u00a0piecing<\/em>\u00a0e la scelta del marmo pario, elementi caratterizzanti della produzione greco insulare del II e I sec a.C., supportano questa ipotesi.
\nL\u2019analisi presentata in questo studio fornisce quindi nuovi dati per la comprensione del processo di assimilazione dei modelli artistici greci da parte della committenza romana, ampiamente attestato dalla documentazione archeologica dei centri dell\u2019Italia tardo\u2013repubblicana.<\/div>\n

The Sanctuary of Hercules Victor at Tivoli. Part 1. The Republican sculptures and their relationship with the artistic production centres in the Eastern Greek islands between the end of the second and the beginning of the first century BC<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though the various excavation campaigns of the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor at Tivoli produced a notable collection of statues, these have never been the object of a comprehensive analysis. The recent opening of the Antiquarium next to the sanctuary provides an occasion to carry out the first systematic study of all of the sculpted works that have come to light, thus allowing archaeologists to establish a precise chronology, identify where they were produced and highlight the main ideas underlying the exhibition.
\nThe most substantial and notable remains may be dated to the late Republican era. They are proof of the fervid contacts between Tivoli and the Greek world, in particular Delos, at a time when the Tiburtine city assumed a preeminent role in the commerce between Italy and the Orient. Stylistic and iconographical analyses of the statues show that the decorative sculptures were commissioned almost exclusively from workshops in the Eastern Greek islands during this impressive first phase in the monumental development of the complex, during the first decades of the first century BC. The widely documented technique of piecing together the different components of statues and the choice of Parian marble, both typical elements of Eastern Greek island production in the second and first centuries BC, support this hypothesis.
\nThe analysis presented in this study thus provides new information toward an understanding of the process of assimilation of Greek artistic models in Roman commissions, widely confirmed by the archaeological evidence from late Republican towns in Italy.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
