Il testo approfondisce, con particolare attenzione, le vicende legate alla prima coppia di cappelle cinque-secentesche: la Pennelli e la Alicorni, demolite alla fine dell\u2019Ottocento nel corso dei lavori di ampliamento urbanistico per Roma capitale. Avvalendosi di una perizia inedita, stilata nel 1874 dagli addetti del Comune, lo studio propone una possibile ricostruzione di entrambi i sacelli perduti, integrando con nuovi elementi le scarse notizie reperibili dalle fonti sul loro apparato decorativo. Il contributo si sofferma, inoltre, sugli affreschi del coro proponendo, attraverso l\u2019identificazione di un personaggio raffigurato al suo interno, un\u2019ipotesi circa il possibile finanziatore delle pitture. Dal riesame degli affreschi emergono infine interessanti affinit\u00e0 tra l\u2019apparato iconografico commissionato dai Teatini e i dettami tridentini in materia di raffigurazioni religiose contenuti nei\u00a0<em>Due Dialogi,<\/em>\u00a0redatti nel 1564 dal canonico Andrea Gilio.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><strong>San Silvestro al Quirinale: the lost chapels and some theories about the choir paintings<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">The article examines the church of San Silvestro al Quirinale from the time it was given to the Order of the Theatines. Particular attention is dedicated to events surrounding the 16th\u2013 to 17th\u2013century Pennelli and Alicorni chapels, demolished at the end of the 19th century during street\u2013widening public works when Rome became the capital of unified Italy. Whereby in the past only a brief description of the paintings that decorated the chapels was known, this new study proposes their reconstruction based on a plan found in an unpublished report written by city surveyors in 1874. In addition, the article discusses at some length the frescos in the choir, putting forward a hypothesis as to who the benefactor to finance the paintings may have been, based on the identification of one of the figures depicted.
