La collina dell\u2019Incoronata, nella bassa valle del Basento, costituisce il nucleo di uno dei centri egemoni del territorio costiero della Basilicata abitato nel corso dell\u2019et\u00e0 del Ferro dalle comunit\u00e0 indigene note con il nome di\u00a0Chones<\/em>. Gli scavi condotti dall\u2019\u00e9quipe\u00a0<\/em>dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Rennes ne hanno portato alla luce rilevanti testimonianze archeologiche, comprendenti strutture associate a pratiche rituali e a un\u2019attivit\u00e0 di produzione\u00a0ceramica databili all\u2019VIII secolo a.C. A partire dalla fine dell\u2019VIII-inizi del VII secolo si installa sulla collina una comunit\u00e0 di ceramisti greci provenienti dall\u2019Egeo, che lavoreranno insieme ai ceramisti indigeni all\u2019interno di un medesimo spazio artigianale sino alla fine del VII secolo a.C., quando il sito sar\u00e0 abbandonato. Di questo\u00a0kerameikos<\/em>, in cui sar\u00e0 attiva la pi\u00f9 importante officina di ceramica orientalizzante a noi nota in Italia Meridionale, sono state portate alla luce testimonianze archeologiche assolutamente eccezionali in termini di qualit\u00e0 e quantit\u00e0, che consentono oggi di contribuire in maniera determinante alla conoscenza delle tecnologie, degli spazi e dei processi di produzione della ceramica nel mondo mediterraneo protoarcaico. Nel presentare un quadro aggiornato e approfondito di questo specifico tipo di documentazione archeologica, l\u2019articolo intende contribuire al tempo stesso alla comprensione dei fenomeni di contatto e di interazione fra comunit\u00e0 greche e non-greche nelle fasi che precedono la \u201ccolonizzazione\u201d d\u2019Occidente, inserendosi nel cuore dell\u2019attuale dibattito scientifico attraverso un dossier fortemente ancorato alla concretezza del dato archeologico.<\/p>\n

Excavations and research on an artisan\u2019s work space at Incoronata in the Basento valley (8th\u20137th century BC)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Incoronata hill in the lower Basento valley was the nucleus of one of the hegemonic centres in Basilicata\u2019s coastal territory during the Iron age. It was inhabited by an indigenous community known as the Chones<\/em>. The excavations carried out by the University of Rennes team brought to light significant archaeological evidence, including structures associated with ritual practices and ceramic production that can be dated to the eighth century BC. A group of Greek potters originating from the Aegean Sea settled on the hillside at the end of the 8th and beginning of the 7th century BC. They worked together with indigenous potters within the same compound until the end of the 7th century BC, when the site was abandoned.<\/div>\n
Some truly exceptional archaeological finds, both in terms of quality and quantity, have been brought to light from this\u00a0kerameikos<\/em>, the most important workshop of Orientalising-style pottery known to us in Southern Italy. These finds are crucial to our understanding of the technology, work spaces and pottery production processes in the proto-archaic Mediterranean world.
\nIn addition to updating and enhancing the documentary evidence in this sector, this article seeks also to contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of contact and interaction between Greek and non-Greek communities in the\u00a0period before the colonization of the West, and, moreover, to place itself at the heart of the current scientific debate with a case that is firmly based on concrete archaeological evidence.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
