I confronti apportati hanno anche consentito di suggerire l\u2019identificazione del soggetto e\u00a0l\u2019iconografia del tipo statuario rappresentato. In particolare, si \u00e8 proposto di riconoscere nella testa capitolina il simulacro di culto del tempio di Diana in\u00a0<em>Circo<\/em>, dedicato dal censore Lucio Emilio Paolo nel 179 a. C. ed eseguito secondo la tecnica acrolitica da un artista di formazione attica influenzato dall\u2019opera di Damophon e Eukleides, vicino alla maniera di scultori quali Timarchides I e i suoi figli, la cui attivit\u00e0 \u00e8 ben attestata a Roma in questo periodo.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><strong>Cult simulacrum from the temple of Diana in Circo: a proposed identification<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">The well known colossal crowned head of a female divinity in the Capitoline Museum\u2019s gallery in the Palazzo Nuovo, a masterpiece of Republican Roman sculpture, has been the object of a new study, and we now have a better understanding of it, both in artistic and stylistic terms. The results of the recent analysis also allow the author to propose an identification of the subject and an iconography of this type of statue.\u00a0The Capitoline head appears to belong to the cult simulacrum from the temple to Diana in Circo, dedicated by the censor Lucius Emilius Paulus in 179 B.C.
