L&#8217;analisi iconografica e formale della scultura, di elevata qualit\u00e0, evidenzia rapporti molto stretti con la plastica in marmo e in terracotta di produzione tarantina e porta a concludere che l&#8217;opera sia stata realizzata negli ultimi decenni del IV secolo a.C. da un artista tarantino che fonde elementi tipici del linguaggio prassitelico con tendenze proprie dell&#8217;ambiente locale. La testa, pertinente a una statuetta di destinazione votiva o cultuale, raffigura una divinit\u00e0 giovanile, che non pu\u00f2 essere identificata essendo ignoto il contesto di rinvenimento e mancando attributi specifici. Una rassegna dei culti praticati a Taranto e nella\u00a0<em>chora<\/em>\u00a0suggerisce tre possibili alternative: Aphrodite, Kore-Persephone o la ninfa Satyria.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><strong>A female head from Taranto<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">The article examines a female head made of Parian (<em>lychnites<\/em>) marble, from a private Roman collection. The formal and iconographical analysis of this high quality sculpture points to a very close relationship with the sculptural tradition in marble and terracotta in Taranto and leads us to conclude that the work was made during the last decades of the 4th century BC by an artist from Taranto. He adopted typical elements from Praxiteles\u2019 language and mixed these with his own local style. The head, which was part of a small votive or religious statue, represents a young goddess. As there are no particular characteristics or way of knowing where she was found, we are unable to identify her.
