Come bene storico-artistico e scientifico, il Giardino Zoologico pone alla conservazione e al restauro un difficile lavoro di contemperamento di esigenze diverse, spesso tutte egualmente degne, ma sovente discordanti. Lo zoo romano \u00e8, in effetti, un bene polimaterico, oscillante fra vegetazione ed opere di architettura, con l\u2019aggiunta della presenza fondamentale degli animali il cui contatto sensoriale e fisico risulta fondamentale ed imprescindibile.
\nL\u2019approccio metodologico, quindi, nella gestione di un bene con queste caratteristiche, non pu\u00f2 prescindere da una visione dinamica, non statica. \u00c8 necessaria una sua continua \u201creinterpretazione\u201d in ragione anche dei progressi della scienza e della mutata sensibilit\u00e0 verso le esigenze degli animali. Occorre un ripensamento economico-gestionale che consideri lo zoo un bene unitario e che lo assoggetti ad una manutenzione programmata. Serve poi un ripensamento scientifico, che porti alla \u201cconoscenza\u201d del bene e quindi ad una seria unit\u00e0 di metodo nel restauro, tanto degli edifici quanto della componente vegetale, nel rispetto delle\u00a0Carte del restauro<\/em>\u00a0vigenti in materia.
\nSolo attraverso un approccio integrato e non settoriale e l\u2019introduzione o il mantenimento di una funzione adeguata, tale monumento si potr\u00e0 conservare nel tempo, perch\u00e9 sar\u00e0 oggetto d\u2019una continua, spontanea manutenzione. Da qui il concetto, espresso in occasione dell\u2019Anno europeo del patrimonio architettonico (Amsterdam, 1975) di \u201cconservazione integrata\u201d da intendersi come \u201cintegrazione urbanistica\u201d fra il monumento e il suo ambiente, e \u201cintegrazione funzionale\u201d fra il monumento e l\u2019attribuzione di un uso con esso compatibile.<\/p>\n

The difficult \u201cintegrated conservation\u201d of a complex cultural property. Results of a Day of Study<\/strong><\/p>\n

The restoration and conservation of the historic, artistic and scientific property that is the Rome Zoological Garden poses a difficult problem as it is a site with very different, worthy and, at the same time, often contradictory requirements. The Rome zoo is in effect a property made up of different materials that swing between works of architecture and landscape together with the presence of the animals. In addiction, there is the fundamental sensory and physical relationship between all three.
\nManaging a property of this kind calls for a dynamic approach and methodology. In particular, what is needed is an ongoing approach that constantly re\u2013interprets itself in order to keep up with new scientific developments and changing attitudes regarding the needs of the animals. It calls for a rethinking of the financial and management aspects, where the zoo is seen as a single unified property subject to a planned maintenance programme. And it calls for a rethinking of the institution from a scientific point of view, to guide our \u201cunderstanding\u201d of the property toward a serious unified method of restoration for the buildings and the landscape, in keeping with the\u00a0Carte del restauro<\/em>\u00a0currently in force.
\nThe monument will be preserved over time only if an integrated, global approach and an adequate maintenance function are introduced in order to guarantee regular\u00a0 upkeep of the entire site. What must be put in place is expressed by the concept of \u201cintegrated conservation\u201d promulgated during the European Year of Architectural Heritage (Amsterdam, 1975): in other words, \u201curban integration\u201d of the monument and its context and \u201cfunctional integration\u201d of the monument and its compatible use.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
