Se ne aveva per\u00f2 conoscenza tramite l\u2019accurata descrizione nell\u2019inventario dell\u2019Arciduca Guglielmo d\u2019Austria del 1659, nel quale era riportata anche l\u2019intera iscrizione presente sul dipinto, compresa la firma e la data.<br \/>\nL\u2019opera \u00e8 riapparsa nel mercato antiquario nel 2004 e si presenta oggi al pubblico quale primo autoritratto della pittrice bolognese risalente agli anni del suo esordio artistico. Nell\u2019evidenziare il valore storico del ritrovamento, in questo articolo, si riesamina quanto finora noto sugli autoritratti dell\u2019artista e sulle copie degli stessi, prodotte nel corso del Seicento e del Settecento, cercando, attraverso l\u2019analisi stilistica e i confronti, di distinguere le copie dagli originali.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><strong>Lavinia Fontana: Her First \u2018Self\u2013Portrait at the Virginal\u2019 Rediscovered, and a Short Analysis of the Painter\u2019s Self\u2013Portraits<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<div align=\"justify\">The first\u00a0<em>Self\u2013Portrait at the Virginal<\/em>\u00a0by Lavinia Fontana, signed and dated 1575, had up to now been considered lost.
