Con la morte di Jacopo Lafri (1544-\u20131620) si cre\u00f2 una vera e propria cesura nell\u2019architettura pistoiese. Se, infatti, quest\u2019ultimo era stato il vero e proprio punto di riferimento per la societ\u00e0 della citt\u00e0 toscana che, quasi sempre,\u00a0\u00a0si si era\u00a0\u00a0indirizzata a lui ogni qualvolta fosse necessario un qualificato intervento edilizio, successivamente manc\u00f2 una figura del genere. Infatti, nei decenni centrali del Seicento, la classe dirigente cittadina fin\u00ec col rivolgersi a una serie di operatori meno abili, a met\u00e0 strada tra dei capi\u2013cantiere e degli architetti nel senso moderno del termine. Tuttavia, proprio in questo periodo, oper\u00f2 a Pistoia un dilettante di architettura, Giovanni Lafri (1582-\u2013?), il figlio di Jacopo, che un\u00ec l\u2019attivit\u00e0 di architetto a quella di sacerdote,\u00a0\u00a0realizzando\u00a0\u00a0un numero esiguo di opere particolarmente significative.\u00a0\u00a0Con la piccola chiesa suburbana di San Piero in Vincio, posta sotto il patronato della sua famiglia, Giovanni cre\u00f2 una particolare e rustica replica di un importante edificio pistoiese del primo Cinquecento, la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, eretta da Ventura Vitoni (1442-1522) tra il 1500 e il 1503,\u00a0\u00a0quasi totalmente distrutta nel 1943 e oggi parzialmente ricostruita.
\nNelle sue realizzazioni notiamo una ripresa dei modi che gi\u00e0 erano stati impiegati dal padre, che tuttavia egli priv\u00f2 dei caratteri pi\u00f9 bizzarri e alline\u00f2 pienamente al linguaggio di Bernardo Buontalenti (1531-\u20131608), imperante in quegli anni a Firenze, creando un\u2019architettura del tutto moderna e aggiornata rispetto alle novit\u00e0 provenienti dalla capitale del Granducato.<\/div>\n

Giovanni Lafri, in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany: Priest, Master at the Sapienza, Amateur Architect<\/strong><\/div>\n

The death of Jacopo Lafri (1544\u20131620), left a real hole in the practice of architecture in Pistoia. Lafri had been the key reference point for the urban \u00e9lite, who had turned to him any time a professional was needed for an important project, and with his passing such a reference point ceased to exist. Indeed, during the central decades of the seventeenth century, the town leadership was forced to turn to a series of less competent figures whose professional status lay somewhere between that of master\u2013builder and architect in the modern sense of the term.
\nDuring this period, however, the amateur architect Giovanni Lafri (1582\u2013?), Jacopo\u2019s son, was active in Pistoia. Both clergyman and architect, he carried out a small number of particularly significant works such as the small suburban church of San Piero in Vincio, then under his family\u2019s patronage. Here, Giovanni created a singular, rustic replica of an important early sixteenth\u2013century building in Pistoia, the church of San Giovanni Battista built between 1500 and 1503 by Ventura Vitoni (1442\u20131522), almost totally destroyed in 1943, and since then partially reconstructed.
\nObservable in his works is a return to the styles his father had used, purified of their most bizarre features and fully aligned with the idiom of Bernardo Buontalenti (1531\u20131608), then dominant in Florence. He thereby introduces a wholly modern and updated form of architecture fully in sync with developments in the capital of the Grand Duchy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
