Il rinnovamento settecentesco della chiesa di San Domenico a Ravenna"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"justify\">\n<p><strong>Estratto dal fascicolo 32 (ottobre-dicembre 2016)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A causa delle sue precarie condizioni strutturali, fin dalla fine del XVII secolo, la chiesa ravennate di San Domenico \u2013 risalente al 1269 circa \u2013 fu oggetto di una radicale opera di ricostruzione che interess\u00f2 tanto la\u00a0facies\u00a0interna del manufatto quanto, successivamente, gli ambienti alla stessa afferenti; tra questi la rinomata Cappella del Santissimo Rosario e il prestigioso santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso. L\u2019incarico venne inizialmente affidato all\u2019architetto camerale Giovan Battista Contini (1642\u20131723), gi\u00e0 attivo in diversi centri periferici dello Stato Pontificio. Ci\u00f2 nondimeno, i religiosi consultarono anche un operatore locale di nome Francesco Saverio Cicognini. I disegni dell\u2019uno e dell\u2019altro furono paragonati e, riconosciute le qualit\u00e0 dell\u2019elaborato romano ma \u2013 al contempo \u2013 l\u2019opportunit\u00e0 di affidarsi alla pragmaticit\u00e0 e perizia tecnica del capomastro, si stabil\u00ec di eseguire il primo progetto con la mediazione per\u00f2 del secondo. Di qui, il cantiere procedette rapido con l\u2019apporto di molteplici professionisti romagnoli dell\u2019epoca fra cui Girolamo Bertos, Giovan Francesco Buonamici (1692\u20131758) e Domenico Barbiani (1714\u20131777). E fu proprio quest\u2019ultimo che, nell\u2019ambito dei lavori di sistemazione del santuario, annot\u00f2 diligentemente la vicenda della costruzione del nuovo edificio sacro corredandola dei grafici di ciascuna delle proposte avanzate: una documentazione preziosa tanto per comprendere la storia della fabbrica quanto per studiare i numerosi rinnovamenti \u2018alla moderna\u2019 in atto a partire dal primo Settecento in tutto lo Stato della Chiesa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A Province modernized: the eighteenth\u2013century renovation of the church of San Domenico in Ravenna<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the end of the seventeenth century the church of San Domenico (begun ca.1269) had fallen into such precarious condition as to necessitate a radical reconstruction involving both the inner walls of the building and, subsequently, also the interconnected rooms. Among the latter were the famous chapel of the Holy Rosary and the prestigious sanctuary of the Holy Crucifix. Initially the commission was entrusted to the Cameral architect Giovan Battista Contini (1642\u20131723), who had already been active in a number of the outlying cities of the Papal States. The Dominicans nonetheless also consulted a local master builder, Francesco Saverio Cicognini, and compared the proposals made by of both. While acknowledging the virtues of the Roman architect\u2019s designs, at the same time, given the available pragmatism and technical expertise of the local master builder, the decision was made to utilize Contini\u2019s project mediated by Cicognini. From this point on construction proceeded rapidly, with the contribution of many specialists from the Romagna region, including Girolamo Bertos, Giovan Francesco Buonamici (1692\u20131758) and Domenico Barbiani (1714\u20131777). The latter, in the context of the work to refurbish the sanctuary, diligently noted down the history of the construction of the new church, accompanying his account with drawings of each proposed project.
