Il contributo descrive una piccola raccolta fotografica recentemente acquisita dalla Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma grazie alla donazione degli eredi dell\u2019ingegner Camillo Giordani, gi\u00e0 direttore, dal 1935 al 1943, delle Officine Gas San Paolo di Roma. Il suo interesse maggiore \u00e8 quello di costituire una fonte documentaria diretta di alcuni aspetti dell\u2019organizzazione e dello sviluppo dello stabilimento, insediato fin dal 1910 nel quartiere romano dell\u2019Ostiense. In questo senso la raccolta va ad integrare i fondi fotografici di soggetto romano della Biblioteca. Presso le Officine Gas San Paolo, il periodo della direzione dell\u2019ingegner Giordani si trov\u00f2 a coincidere da una parte con l\u2019ingresso massiccio del gas nella dimensione domestica e con le conseguenti attivit\u00e0 di divulgazione e reclamizzazione, dall\u2019altra con le forti spinte all\u2019industrializzazione dettate dal contesto dell\u2019autarchia come strumento di propaganda del regime fascista prima, e dalla guerra poi. Le fotografie della raccolta, integrate da ricerche dell\u2019autore effettuate presso l\u2019Archivio Storico e Museo Italgas di Torino e sulla rivista Acqua e gas, documentano non solo il duro lavoro nelle officine, l\u2019introduzione di caldaie tecnicamente all\u2019avanguardia, ma anche le esercitazioni finalizzate alla protezione antiaerea e la costruzione del grande gazometro che ancora oggi caratterizza il panorama del quartiere Ostiense.<\/div>\n

A<\/strong>\u00a0history in pictures: The production of the gas and anti\u2013aircraft protection in Rome. A photographic collection in the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale<\/strong><\/p>\n

The present contribution examines a small group of photographs recently acquired by the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma through a donation by the heirs of Camillo Giordani, an engineer and former director of the San Paolo Gasometer in Rome from 1935 to 1943. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the collection is that it constitutes a direct documentary source for features of the organization and development of the gasometer plant established in 1910 in Rome\u2019s Ostiense quarter. In this sense, it also enriches the library\u2019s collection of photography on the subject of the city of Rome. At the San Paolo Gasworks, the period of engineer Giordani\u2019s management coincided on the one hand with the massive entry of gas into the domestic dimension and the consequent publicity and advertising activity, and on the other with strong pressures to \u2018industrialize\u2019 dictated by the autarchic context, first as a tool of propaganda for the Fascist regime, and then for the war. The photography in the collection, integrated through the author\u2019s research carried out at the l\u2019Archivio Storico e Museo Italgas in Turin and by a study of the journal Acqua e gas, documents not only the hard labor in the gasometer and the introduction of technically advanced heating units, but also the anti\u2013aircraft protection exercises and the construction of the large gasometer that still characterizes the skyline of the Ostiense district.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
