L’articolo tratta di sei fogli miniati staccati in epoca imprecisata da un corale di cui si sono perse le tracce, attualmente conservati presso la chiesa di S. Maria in Aracoeli a Roma. Dei frammenti, che furono recuperati negli anni Novanta del ’900 dai carabinieri del Nucleo Tutela per il Patrimonio Artistico, nell’ambito di una complessa operazione che coinvolse materiale pergamenaceo eterogeneo e di diversa provenienza, non si conosce la storia, né è possibile ricostruire quando giunsero nella chiesa romana o se appartenenti ad un codice eseguito appositamente per la comunità francescana dell’Aracoeli. Non esistendo una documentazione comprovante la provenienza originaria dei pezzi, si è deciso di pubblicare i sei fogli, staccati da un corale che sulla base del tipo di testo liturgico può essere identificato in un salterio-innario, al fine di facilitare un loro riconoscimento e, se possibile, in futuro ritrovare il volume da cui furono staccati. Sulla base delle poche miniature presenti la studiosa ha riconosciuto nell’artefice il Maestro del Breviario Francescano, la cui produzione è al momento circoscrivibile agli anni 1440-1460 e quasi sempre all’ambito francescano.

The present article discusses the six illuminated folios detached at an unknown date from a choir-book of which all trace has been lost. The loose folios are now conserved in the church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli in Rome. Recovered by the Carabinieri of the Nucleo Tutela per il Patrimonio Artistico in the 1990s, as part of a complex operation involving heterogeneous vellum codices of various provenance, nothing is known of their history, nor is it possible to reconstruct when exactly they entered the Roman church or whether they belonged to a codex specially produced for the Franciscan community of the Aracoeli. The choir-book from which the six folios were detached, can, on the basis of the type of liturgical text, be identified as a psalter-hymnal. Since there exists no documentation proving their original provenance, it was decided to publish the folios with the aim of facilitating their recognition and, if possible, locating the codex from which they were torn out. On the basis of the few miniatures present in these loose sheets, the author has identified the artist as the Master of the Franciscan Breviary, whose production is for the time being confined to the years 1440-1460 and almost always for Franciscan patronage.
