Il Parco infatti aveva subìto un profondo mutamento, trasformandosi da giardino del principe e luogo di svago per la corte borbonica in parco pubblico, con i problemi di manutenzione e di gestione connessi al massiccio impatto antropico dovuto alla sua moderna fruizione.
An “informal” garden in the Park of the Reggia di Caserta
In 1997, the ICOMOS experts, in giving their approval to adding the 18th–century complex in Caserta to the UNESCO World Heritage List, recommended that the Italian State formulate a management plan covering the maintenance and restoration of the Royal Park, the English Garden and the Saint Sylvester Wood. In fact the Park had suffered a profound change when it was transformed from a prince’s garden and place of leisure for the Bourbon court into a public park with all the problems associated with maintaining and managing its use by very large numbers of visitors.
