BOLLETTINO D'ARTE Serena Quagliaroli: Ornare il ducato: decorazione in stucco e plasticatori a Parma e Piacenza nella seconda metà del Cinquecento

Analizzando i profili di alcuni artisti che si distinsero per particolari abilità nella decorazione in stucco, il contributo affronta l’impiego di questa tecnica nel Ducato farnesiano, dall’istituzione (1545) sino alla fine del XVI secolo, offrendo osservazioni in tema di circolazione di artisti, maestranze e soluzioni decorative. Per le opere (perdute) realizzate in patria dal più celebre fra gli stuccatori emiliani, il piacentino Giulio Mazzoni, si presentano riflessioni e ricostruzioni accompagnate da inedite testimonianze visive. Nuova luce è gettata anche sull’attività plastica di Girolamo Mirola, direttore dei lavori di decorazione nel Palazzo del Giardino di Parma.
Ornamenting the dukedom: Stucco decoration and sculptors in Parma and Piacenza in the second half of the Sixteenth century
Analysing the profiles of some artists who distinguished themselves for their particular skills in stucco decoration, the paper deals with the use of this technique in the Farnese Duchy, from its establishment in 1545 until the end of the Sixteenth century, offering observations on the circulation of artists, workers and their decorative solutions. For the (lost) works of the most famous of the Emilian plasterers from Piacenza, Giulio Mazzoni, created by the artist in his homeland, reflections and reconstructions are presented accompanied by unpublished visual evidence. New light is thrown on the moulding activity of Girolamo Mirola, in charge of the decoration of Palazzo del Giardino in Parma.
